The Man, The Myth

I’ve been saying for years now that I think Conan O’Brien is the smartest and funniest person in the world. Not only is he responsible for some of my favorite of The Simpsons episodes (he presented his idea for the monorail ep his third day on the job) but, his ability to come up with belly crunching hilarious reactions off the top of his head to persons he interviews has always been an indication to me that there is astounding genius inside of that heaving orange dome. Conan recently took over The Tonight Show and I’ve been watching it religiously on Last night I was dicking around on youtube and found a recent Inside The Actors Studio that Conan appeared on and it’s amazing. He talks about his youth, his time at Harvard, then SNL and The Simpsons, and his love for the artistry of improvisation, as well as the seriousness and science of comedy itself. I learned a lot and I was inspired by his acute vision of purpose he had from the beginning. The dude actually went around Harvard tagging little doodles of himself and when asked why he explained that it was a calling card for his show and designer jeans that he was going to have one day (the jeans are set to debut in 2010).

You can watch the entire (sorta) ep on youtube, but here’s a short clip of a prank he pulled while at Harvard. It totally rips.

Highway Steamer

The other day my friend Tiffany asked me to remind her how to be tough. I said, “pffft. Listen to Deep Purple’s ‘Highway Star’ and drive fast drinking whiskey.” Driving while drinking doesn’t always work out, but the sentiment is dead on. So for all those out there who feel like they need some toughening up I bring to you my newest set, Highway Steamer. It’s based off an earlier playlist I made for another friend who needed something hot to listen to while driving her Mustang. So this also goes out to everyone that likes to roll fast and hard.

Nazi Zombies

I’m not much of a movie guy. I find a lot to be boring and a waste of time. I usually would rather be playing guitar, riding my bike, or playing double guitars while riding my hawk in my American flag ADIDAS jump suit. But now and then something grabs my attention with a clinging fury until I see it. Dead Snow, a Norwegian film about 8 medical students who do an Easter Vacation in the Norwegian Alps only to be brutally accosted by Colonel Herzog and his ripping band of Nazi zombies, was worth my time. Part homage in several good ways to one of my favorite horror series, The Evil Dead trilogy, this movie was filled with extreme gore, good laughs, some actual scary parts, and not much cheese. I highly recommend this film to fans of zombies, epic battles, laughs, snowmobile tubing babes, and brutality. It’s in NYC and LA right now, but I’ve heard there are ways to see it for cheaper at home.

On another note, I’ve read that Northern Europe has a burgeoning horror scene that includes the Swedish vampire film Let The Right One In and I may go out of my way to see that too.
